At the time of writing, Sons Of The Forest is the third most played game on Steam, with 265,000 concurrent players. Not bad for a game released over 3 hours ago. In fact, it was so popular that it may have crashed Steam.
Sons Of The Forest was scheduled to start tonight at 5pm GMT, but ended a little later. Instead, the launch coincided with a rare period of Steam downtime, and we can see a peak in reported failures on Downdetector. 265,000 people trying to download and play a new game at the same time might have been enough to see Valve’s servers crash.
In case you didn’t know, Sons Of The Forest is a first-person survival game and sequel to The Forest. Like its predecessor, it’s all about surviving in a jungle environment, enlisting the help of friends if needed, while the half-naked cannibals do their best to impede the player’s progress.
Sons Of The Forest was originally slated for release as a full his game this year, but has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor by being released as an Early Access his release.
We’ll have a lot more to say about this flashy survival sim in the future, but we’re thrilled that what’s essentially an indie game has been an instant hit. If you want to join the masses, you can find it on Steam for £25/$30.
